Maintenance works are being carried out on the Margaret and Churchill Street groynes and the Elizabeth Street seawall in Hervey Bay. This includes replacing rock armour, repairing the seawall and completing landscaping and revegetation works.
The works will help protect nearby roads, pathways and public infrastructure from coastal erosion and ongoing wear from waves and weather.
Site works will begin in early May 2026, with construction starting from 11 May 2026. Works are expected to be completed by the end of August 2026, weather permitting.
Works include excavation and earthworks, replacement of rock armour on the groynes, reconstruction of sections of the seawall using rock bags, and maintenance of rock revetments. Landscaping and revegetation will also be carried out where needed.
The project is estimated to cost approximately $2.4 million.
During construction, there will be temporary changes to pedestrian access and exclusion zones in work areas. Residents can also expect increased truck movements along parts of Elizabeth Street, the Esplanade, Alexander Street and Cypress Street as materials are transported to site.
