What’s happening
Council is installing new lighting along sections of the popular walking loop around Anzac Park and the Maryborough Golf Course to improve visibility and safety for residents using the pathway.

Why
The walking loop is one of Maryborough’s most popular outdoor spaces and is used daily for walking, exercise and recreation. Lighting will allow people to use the pathway safely in the early morning and evening, particularly during shorter daylight hours.

When
Stage 1 construction will begin in early March 2026 and is expected to continue until late May 2026, weather permitting. Design work for Stage 2 is currently being finalised for tender.

What
Stage 1 works include installing electrical conduits and footings for new light poles, lighting along the eastern side of Neptune Street between Alice Street and Queen Street, and lighting along approximately 180 metres of the northern side of Queen Street. Works also include new kerb and channel and associated road and footpath improvements. The stage 1 works are being delivered by contractor Grand Civil.

How much will it cost
The project is valued at $2.7 million and is funded through the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.

Community impact
There may be minor disruptions to pathway access near work areas while construction is underway. Once complete, the lighting upgrade will make the walking loop safer and more accessible for residents to enjoy throughout the day and evening.
