Region-Wide Barbecue Replacement Program

A free public BBQ in a Fraser Coast Park

What's happening

Council is replacing ageing barbecues at four parks across the Fraser Coast as part of the Region-Wide Barbecue Replacement Program.

The works will include:

  • two barbecues at Wookoo Park, Oakhurst
  • one barbecue at Bill Fraser Park
  • one barbecue at Gables Park
  • one barbecue at All Abilities Park.

Why

The existing barbecues have reached the end of their useful life or no longer meet current requirements.

The new barbecues will be safer, more reliable and easier to maintain, while reducing the ongoing costs and risks associated with ageing infrastructure.

When

Works are scheduled to start in September 2026 and be completed by April 2027, weather permitting.

The replacements will be completed in stages around other priority Council projects across the region.

What

Council will disconnect and remove the existing barbecues and install new compliant facilities.

Existing services and infrastructure will be reused where suitable. The new barbecues will meet Council requirements, relevant Australian Standards and manufacturer specifications.

How much will it cost

The program is expected to cost $48,000 and will be delivered by Council's Internal Construction Team.

Community impact

There may be temporary access restrictions around individual barbecue areas while work is underway.

Council will notify residents and park users of upcoming works and any access changes where required.
