Hervey Bay Airport Terminal Upgrade

Project overview

Fraser Coast Regional Council is investing $18 million to upgrade the Hervey Bay Airport terminal, improving capacity, accessibility and passenger comfort while preparing for future growth.

The upgrade is the first major investment in the terminal in more than 20 years and will be delivered in stages while the airport remains fully operational.

The project will improve the travel experience for passengers, support growing visitor numbers and help position the Fraser Coast to benefit from future opportunities, including increased visitation associated with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Why is the project needed?

Hervey Bay Airport has experienced significant growth in recent years, with more than 240,000 passengers travelling through the airport in 2025 — the highest annual passenger numbers in the airport's history.

Passenger numbers have increased for four consecutive years, reflecting the Fraser Coast's growing popularity as both a visitor destination and a place to live.

The terminal upgrade will ensure the airport can continue to meet increasing demand while providing a more comfortable and accessible experience for travellers.
