$7m transformation for Scrub Hill Road in Dundowran

A $7.16 million upgrade of Scrub Hill Road in Dundowran will support hundreds of future homes while transforming one of Hervey Bay’s key school and residential routes.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Michelle Govers said the project was a great example of infrastructure investment benefiting both current and future residents.

“This project will provide the essential road infrastructure needed to support approved housing developments in the area while also delivering immediate benefits for the many residents, school families and motorists who already use Scrub Hill Road every day,” she said.

“As the Fraser Coast continues to grow, it is important that infrastructure keeps pace so we can support new housing opportunities while maintaining safe and efficient road networks for our community.

“When complete, the road will be safer, more accessible and better equipped to cater for future growth.”

The Scrub Hill Road upgrade is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the Residential Activation Fund.

Cr Govers said local residents would see a significant transformation once the project was complete.

“Families travelling to and from Yarrilee State School and Xavier Catholic College will benefit from improved intersections, pedestrian crossings, pathways, lighting and safer road conditions,” she said.

“This project will transform Scrub Hill Road into a modern connection designed to cater for current and future traffic demands.

“The upgrade will support approved housing developments in the area while ensuring the road network keeps pace with growth.”

The project involves reconstructing approximately 814 metres of Scrub Hill Road between Urraween Road and Empire Circuit.

Works include:

  • Construction of a new roundabout connecting Scrub Hill Road with the Sage Estate and Augustus/Oasis Estate developments;
  • Raised pedestrian crossings on three legs of the roundabout;
  • New kerb and channel, underground drainage and cross drainage infrastructure;
  • Relocation of existing water and sewer mains;
  • A 2.5 metre-wide shared pathway and on-road cycle lanes;
  • New intersection lighting, signage and line marking; and
  • Landscaping and restoration of disturbed areas.

Preliminary works will start on 15 June 2026, with major construction works to follow.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.

A temporary road closure will be in place on Scrub Hill Road between Urraween Road and a point approximately 20 metres south of Empire Circuit until the project is completed.

Access to Empire Circuit and nearby residential areas will be maintained, however motorists travelling to and from nearby schools may need to use alternative routes during construction.

The construction contract has been awarded to local company Kirbro Contracting Pty Ltd to deliver the project.
