Bargains hunters will be in for a treat this weekend with the Fraser Coast ranked number two in Australia for Garage Sale Trail registrations.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said more than 250 sales and stalls in our region will be taking part in the nationwide reuse event, held over two weekends (8-9 November and 15-16 November).

“Thousands of pre-loved items will be available across the Fraser Coast this weekend including fashion, furniture, homeware, books, art, antiques, collectibles, and electronics - all at a fraction of retail prices,” he said.

“From Torquay to Takura, Boonooroo to Bauple, Pialba to Point Vernon, it’s the ultimate second-hand shopping spree with an incredible range of sales to explore.

“Torquay State School will host a sale this weekend featuring students, parents and teachers, with 35 different stalls registered.

“There are also several car boot sales in Bauple, community group stalls in Maryborough, and household sales right across the Fraser Coast.

“Fraser Coast Regional Council is proud to be one of more than 80 Councils involved in this year’s Garage Sale Trail, which promotes the circular economy and the benefits of reuse.”

Deputy Mayor Sara Diana Faraj said the event was a win for both shoppers and the environment.

“It’s a simple, fun way to keep thousands of kilograms of goods out of landfill while giving items a new life,” she said.

“Buying second-hand saves money, reduces waste and helps lower demand for new products. With close to three million items expected to be listed across Australia, the impact is significant.

“Last year, almost 300,000 Australians took part in the Garage Sale Trail, helping to reuse more than 755,000 items and save 2,540 tonnes of carbon emissions, 96 megalitres of water and 1,870 hectares of land.

“This year, household furniture including antiques and collectables tops the list of popular sale items, followed by art, books and clothing,” said Cr Byrne.

Cr Seymour said the Garage Sale Trail is also a fantastic opportunity to connect with your community, knowing every dollar spent stays local.

“You can still register a stall for this weekend or next (15–16 November) and make extra money while giving your pre-loved items a second life,” he said.
