Registrations are now open for the annual Christmas Lights Trail, inviting residents and businesses to light up the Fraser Coast and help bring some festive cheer to the community.

From dancing Santas and handmade decorations to homes covered in twinkling lights, the Christmas Lights Trail is a much-loved tradition that brings families, friends and neighbours together to share in the festive spirit.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the trail continued to grow in popularity, with 174 homes and businesses registering for the 2025 Christmas Lights map, along with nine Christmas Street entries.

“There’s something magical about Christmas lights as they bring people together, brighten our streets, and create wonderful memories for families,” he said.

“We saw some incredible displays in 2025, with residents spending months preparing their homes, including one Westminster Court property in Kawungan that featured 50,000 lights and took more than a month to set up.

“Ronaldo Way took out the Christmas Street honours in both 2023 and 2025, while Westminster Court in Kawungan claimed the title in 2024.”

Julie Deakin from Ronaldo Way in Urangan said for Ronaldo Way residents, it’s more than just Christmas lights, it’s about bringing our community together, spreading Christmas cheer, and creating a little magic for everyone to enjoy.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Ronaldo Way throughout December and see families, friends and visitors enjoying the lights and sharing in the Christmas spirit with us,” she said.

Cr Seymour said Christmas Street entries need at least three registered properties to be in the running for the Christmas Street title, with each household required to submit its own registration form.

“Businesses are also encouraged to light up their shop fronts as it’s a simple, festive way for businesses to boost visibility, with decorations that continue to draw attention well beyond trading hours,” he said.

“I’ll have the hard task of judging the Christmas Street entries in early December, with the winning street receiving a special sign to proudly display for the next 12 months.

“All registered homes and businesses will feature on Council’s interactive online Christmas Lights Trail map, which will be available on Council’s website from 1 December.

“We can’t wait to see what Fraser Coast residents come up with this year and the joy these displays bring to families and neighbours right across the community.

“We encourage all entrants to light up their front yards between 6pm and 10pm daily from 1 December.”

Registrations for the Fraser Coast Christmas Lights Trail are open now online at https://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/festive and close at 5pm, Friday 20 November 2026.
