City Park upgrades support growing city centre

Fraser Coast residents and visitors will soon enjoy a more welcoming and comfortable City Park in Pialba, with work starting today on a range of improvements to one of Hervey Bay's most popular public spaces.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the improvements would create better places for people to relax, connect and enjoy the city's growing civic precinct.

“City Park is a popular destination for families, visitors and people using the nearby Rail Trail or visiting the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery, and these upgrades will make it an even more enjoyable place to spend time there," he said.

“The works are about creating attractive, accessible and inviting public spaces that bring people together and encourage them to spend more time in the heart of Hervey Bay.

“Public spaces are just as important as the buildings around them. These improvements will create more comfortable places for people to meet friends, enjoy community events or simply spend time outdoors.

“The upgrades form part of Council's broader vision for a vibrant city centre and civic precinct in the heart of Hervey Bay.”

The project includes refurbishment of sections of the existing timber boardwalk and balustrades, installation of new seating and park furniture, replacement of shade sails and landscaping improvements throughout the park.

Council will also improve sections of the Rail Trail concrete pathway and undertake environmental maintenance and garden rejuvenation works across the precinct.

The works start today (Monday 15 June) and are expected to be completed by early August, weather permitting.

Temporary fencing, pedestrian detours and exclusion zones will be in place at times while works are undertaken.
