The opening of the new Hervey Bay Community Hub has marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the city, with Fraser Coast Regional Council now exploring future opportunities for three key sites.
With the relocation of Council services to the new facility, Council has commenced a market sounding process to understand potential future opportunities for:
- the former Council office at 77 Tavistock Street, Torquay;
- the former Hervey Bay Library site at 161 Old Maryborough Road, Pialba; and
- the Flex Space at the new Hervey Bay Community Hub, a vacant space near the front entrance that opens onto the outdoor deck area.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the process would help Council better understand what opportunities may exist and ensure future decisions were based on strong information.
“The opening of the Hervey Bay Community Hub is a significant milestone for our region, bringing library services, customer service and Council teams together in a modern community facility,” he said.
“It also provides an opportunity to look at how some of our existing sites can continue to provide value for our growing community into the future.
“Council is not making any decisions about these sites at this stage. This process is about understanding what interest exists and what opportunities may be available.
“This will help Council consider options that deliver the best possible outcomes for the community.”
The three sites each present different opportunities.
The former Council office at 77 Tavistock Street is being considered for a range of potential future uses, including leasing, sale or a possible development partnership.
The former Hervey Bay Library site provides an opportunity to explore future uses for the building and land following the relocation of library services to the Community Hub.
The Flex Space at the new Hervey Bay Community Hub provides an opportunity to explore community, commercial or partnership uses that support activation of the new precinct.
Cr Seymour said exploring future opportunities for these sites aligned with Council’s broader focus on supporting investment and economic growth across the Fraser Coast.
“Through our economic development strategy Fraser Coast Futures 2036, we are focused on creating opportunities that support jobs, investment and a stronger local economy,” he said.
“Understanding the potential future uses of these important sites is part of planning for the continued growth and prosperity of our region.”
Council’s market sounding process is open to interested organisations, with responses invited through Council’s Request for Proposal process.
