Cr Lachlan Cosgrove has been appointed Deputy Mayor for the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Cr Cosgrove said he was honoured to take on the role and thanked his fellow Councillors for their support.

“It is a privilege to have the confidence of my colleagues, and I will approach this role with a strong focus on supporting the whole Council to work effectively together,” he said.

“Good decision-making doesn’t require us to always agree, but it does require respect, collaboration and a shared focus on outcomes for our community.

“As a Council, we are focused on delivering services effectively and efficiently, managing growth, maintaining liveability, and planning for the future of the Fraser Coast.

“I look forward to contributing to that work and supporting strong, balanced decision-making.”

Cr Cosgrove said he had continued to grow during his time on Council and was committed to contributing constructively.

“The Deputy Mayor position is both practical and important — supporting the Mayor, chairing meetings when required, and helping ensure all Councillors are heard,” he said.

“I will approach the role seriously, work hard, and do my best to serve the whole Council and the region fairly.”

Cr Cosgrove was appointed Deputy Mayor by his Council colleagues at today’s Council meeting.

The Deputy Mayor is appointed annually. Cr Sara Diana Faraj served in the role from April 2025.

Cr Cosgrove was first elected to Council in 2024 and represents Division 6, which includes the suburbs of Point Vernon, Eli Waters and part of Pialba.

He is Chair of the Fraser Coast Events Advisory Committee, a Board Member of Fraser Coast Tourism and Events, and a member of the Chief Executive Officer Performance Review Committee.
