Fraser Coast Aquatic Centres splash into a strong year

Fraser Coast aquatic facilities made a big splash in 2025, welcoming more than 250,000 visitors across three centres, with Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre recording a 58 per cent surge in patronage over the summer school holidays.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the strong attendance figures highlighted just how popular the region’s aquatic facilities in Hervey Bay and Maryborough were for both residents and visitors.
“Our aquatic centres play an important role in keeping people active, cool and connected, particularly over the busy summer period, and these numbers show just how valued they are by our community,” Cr Seymour said.
“Over December 2025 and January 2026, Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre had 24,580 visitors compared to 15,497 for the same period the previous year.
“The increase followed the multi-million dollar upgrade to the centre, which delivered a new activity tower and lagoon wet play, an interactive splash pad for toddlers, and improved shade and lighting.
“These upgrades are already paying off for the community, creating a more enjoyable experience for casual swimmers, families and swimming clubs.”
Cr Seymour said the Maryborough Aquatic Centre also saw greater numbers in December and January, with an eight per cent increase in attendance.
“Swimming is Australia’s number one participation sport and one of the few activities people can enjoy from early childhood right through to older age, so it’s great to see so many people making use of our aquatic centres,” he said.
“Maryborough Aquatic Centre has also benefited from key infrastructure upgrades, improved amenities and grandstand works, which have enhanced reliability and created a better experience for customers.”
Fraser Coast Sport and Recreation spokesperson Lachlan Cosgrove said it was great to see so many people attending our facilities in big numbers, and the feedback has been fantastic.
“WetSide Water Park also recorded another standout year, welcoming 149,587 visitors in 2024–25, making it the region’s most attended aquatic facility and the park’s biggest year since COVID,” he said.
“WetSide is a much-loved attraction, offering safe and engaging water play for toddlers, families and young people, while helping everyone stay cool during the summer months.
“Recent upgrades at WetSide included a revamped TotSide area, improved water quality through a new UV filtration system, and making the Aqua Ninja course free, resulted in strong participation.
“Aqua Ninja participation is up on last year, along with slide passes, with 15,840 slide passes sold in 2024–25,” Cr Cosgrove said.
“Our continued investment in aquatic facilities shows Council’s commitment to creating places where people can stay active and build connections with friends and family. We look forward to welcoming even more people in 2026.”
