Road closed due to flooding
Monday, 9 March, 9.30am

The Bureau of Meteorology has upgraded its flood warning for the Mary River following heavy rainfall across the catchment overnight.

Tiaro Bridge is currently closed due to rising river levels.

At Maryborough, the Mary River is currently below the minor flood level but is expected to exceed the minor flood level (5m) from late Monday afternoon.

Current forecasts suggest the river may reach around 7m overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with minor flooding, although higher levels remain possible depending on rainfall across the catchment.

Based on the latest forecasts, additional bridge closures may be required in Maryborough late this afternoon as river levels rise. We will update the community further as more details become available.

Preparations for the Lamington Bridge closure must begin once the river reaches around 4.5m, before the bridge becomes inundated at approximately 5.5m.

Access to Granville Bridge via Tiger, Kent and Guava Streets can also be lost at around 5.7m on the Mary River (Portside) gauge.

Major flooding in the Burrum–Cherwell catchment may also lead to flooding impacts in areas such as Pacific Haven.

Residents are reminded to stay off the roads where possible and never drive through floodwaters.
