Council and emergency services are continuing to monitor forecasts as rain is expected to increase across the Fraser Coast tomorrow and Monday.

As a precaution, Council crews are closing Adelaide Street in Maryborough this afternoon to install the CBD penstock gate ahead of the forecast rain.

The gate helps protect the Maryborough CBD by allowing stormwater to drain out during normal conditions, but can be closed if river levels rise to prevent the Mary River backing up into the CBD.

Installing the gate now ensures the work can be completed safely before heavy rain arrives in the Mary River catchment or river levels begin to rise.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall in our region and flood warnings for the Mary River and Burrum and Cherwell catchments.

If heavy rain develops, please stay off the roads where possible.
