Free dementia expo coming to Hervey Bay

People living with dementia, their families and carers will have an opportunity to connect with local services and support when a free Mini Dementia Expo comes to Hervey Bay next month.
The Fraser Coast Dementia Alliance is bringing the expo to the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre in Charles Street, Pialba, from 9am to noon on Wednesday 23 September.
The event will bring together organisations and service providers to share practical information and resources for people living with dementia and those supporting them.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said dementia affected many families across the region and knowing where to turn for information and support could make a real difference.
“Dementia can be an overwhelming journey, both for the person living with dementia and for their family and carers,” he said.
“Events like this make it easier for people to connect with services, ask questions and find out what support is available locally.
“Just as importantly, they bring people together and remind those affected by dementia that they don't have to navigate that journey alone.”
Fraser Coast Seniors Liaison Officer Juls de Waard said the Hervey Bay expo followed a successful event held in Maryborough in July.
“We had a wonderful response to the Maryborough expo, and we're pleased to now bring the event to Hervey Bay,” she said.
“Sometimes people simply don't know what services are available or where to start, so having organisations together in the one place gives people the chance to have conversations, ask questions and make connections.
“Whether you're living with dementia yourself, caring for someone or have a family member or friend who has been diagnosed, we'd encourage you to come along and see what's available.”
The Mini Dementia Expo will be held at the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, Charles Street, Pialba, from 9am to noon on Wednesday 23 September.

The expo is organised by the Fraser Coast Dementia Alliance with support from Fraser Coast Regional Council and Torbay Lifestyles & Care.
