From helping rescue sea turtles to upgrading local sporting facilities and community spaces, 49 projects across the Fraser Coast are set to benefit from a major Council funding boost.

Fraser Coast Regional Council has approved more than $194,000 funding under the latest round of its Community Grants Program, supporting local initiatives that improve facilities, deliver programs and strengthen connections across the region.

Mayor George Seymour said the program was about backing local people and practical projects that make a difference.

“These grants support the volunteers and community groups who are doing the work every day to make the Fraser Coast a better place to live, work and raise a family,” he said.

“Whether it’s upgrading equipment, improving facilities or delivering programs that support our community, this funding helps turn great local ideas into reality.”

Projects funded in this round include:

  • Volunteer sea turtle rescue training workshops by Turtles in Trouble Rescue
  • Fit-out of essential appliances for the Shine Bright Men’s Hub in Hervey Bay
  • New showjumping equipment for Maryborough Pony Club
  • “Reach Out Glenwood” community support initiative
  • Mental health support event trailer for Redbike Adventures
  • Community fitness classes supported by Boonooroo Progress Association
  • Safety, lighting and equipment upgrades for sporting clubs across the Fraser Coast, including Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Burrum Heads, Tiaro, Bauple and Toogoom

Cr Seymour said the variety of projects highlighted the strength and diversity of community organisations across the region.

“This funding is supporting everything from environmental initiatives and mental health programs through to grassroots sport and community infrastructure,” he said.

“It’s an investment in stronger, more connected communities right across the Fraser Coast.”

Successful applicants will now enter into funding agreements with Council, with projects expected to roll out across the region over the coming months.
