Fraser Coast families are invited to enjoy a free Play Date in the Park next month and help shape the future of one of Torquay’s best-loved playgrounds.
Fraser Coast Regional Council is planning an upgrade of Ernie Organ Park on the Torquay Esplanade, with community consultation opening on Monday 2 November.
A special Play Date in the Park will be held on Sunday 8 November from 10am to 1pm, featuring a free sausage sizzle, lawn games, bubble play and live music from local family folk-pop trio Stix & Stringz.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the popular Esplanade park had been enjoyed by generations of local families and visitors for generations but is ready for a refresh.
“Ernie Organ Park is one of Torquay’s best-loved community spaces and we want residents to help us plan its future,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for families, park users and local residents to tell us what they would like to see in an upgraded park.
“Whether it’s adventurous climbing equipment, swings, nature play, sensory play or inclusive play spaces, your feedback will help shape the upgrade and ensure the park reflects the needs of our growing community.”
Cr Seymour said the park currently features a large playground, mature shade trees, picnic facilities, barbecues, shelters, toilets and seating overlooking the waterfront.
“Community feedback will help shape the upgrade, including the types of play experiences, park themes and age groups it will cater for,” he said.
“Known to many locals as the ‘Train Park’, Ernie Organ Park holds a special place in the community and has long been a popular destination for families visiting the Torquay foreshore.
“As we plan for its future, we want to retain the park’s history and character while hearing what residents value most and what improvements they would like to see included in the upgrade.”
