Fraser Coast residents are being called on to clear out, cash in and help the region retain its title as Australia’s top-performing council area when Garage Sale Trail returns this November.

The nationwide event will see thousands of garage sales and market stalls held across Australia on 7-8 and 14-15 November 2026, giving locals the chance to sell unwanted items, pick up a bargain, meet new people and keep quality goods out of landfill.

Council Resource Recovery spokesperson Cr Michelle Byrne said Fraser Coast was the nation's top-performing council area last year, with 317 registered sales, up from 200 in 2024.

“It was a fantastic result in 2025 and reflects our community's strong commitment to sustainability and reuse," she said.

“Council is proud to support the Garage Sale Trail again this year, and we're looking forward to seeing even more residents get involved.”

Cr Byrne said the top-selling items last year included homewares, clothing, books and children's toys, with 35 per cent of items sold likely to have otherwise ended up in landfill.

“In 2025, more than 330,000 Australians took part in Garage Sale Trail, helping to reuse almost 740,000 items and avoid more than 2,700 tonnes of carbon emissions," she said.

“Garage Sale Trail is about much more than decluttering. It helps keep valuable items in circulation, reduces waste and strengthens community connections.

“It's also encouraging to see that 57 per cent of sellers said they would not have hosted a garage sale if it wasn't for Garage Sale Trail, showing the event is helping more people embrace the circular economy.”

Cr Byrne said sellers made an average of $500 last year, showing that selling second-hand is as good for the wallet as it is for the planet.

"Whether you're looking for fashion, furniture, cookware, tools, books or children's items, there will be something for everyone," she said.

“Participation is free and registered hosts receive access to a range of promotional resources and tools to help make their sale a success.”
