Fraser Coast residents who rely on Walkers Point Road to get to and from Maryborough and surrounding areas will soon benefit from a $2 million upgrade.

Cr Daniel Sanderson said work is starting this month to enhance safety and improve travel conditions on the road.

“Walkers Point Road is a vital link for those commuting to work, school or the shops, and it’s great to see a local road like this getting the upgrade it needs to deliver safer, smoother travel for families, farmers and businesses in the area,” he said.

“Council is committed to effectively managing and maintaining our assets to meet the needs of the community, and this upgrade is a great example of that in action.”

The project, set to run between Eden Street and Beaver Rock Road, will include:

  • Resurfacing and repairs to the road
  • Widening for safer travel
  • Upgraded drainage and culverts
  • New road markings and signage

The upgrade is expected to take about seven months, with works slated for completion in November 2026, weather permitting.

During construction, motorists can expect some traffic control measures, but the road will remain open for local use.
