Families will soon be able to enjoy the Maryborough Aquatic Centre's water play area again, with work starting next week to repair and refresh the popular feature.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the rest of the centre will remain open while improvements are made to the water play space, which has been closed due to underground damage and water leaks.

“These repairs will replace the old pipes and pumps with a more reliable and efficient system,” he said.

“Damaged parts of the water play system are being replaced, with pipework rerouted above the roof to help protect the area from future flooding and make it easier to maintain.”

Cr Seymour said the nearby playground area would also be given a new lease on life.

“The existing playground will be revamped to make it a more welcoming and flexible space where families can play, relax and connect,” he said.

“New seating, landscaping and fun features like an outdoor table tennis set up and bean bag lounges will give people more ways to spend time together.

“Public pools are vitally important for communities like Maryborough. They are spaces for people to enjoy, and they are also highly beneficial in helping young people learn to swim and gain water safety awareness.”

The current work follows a recent refurbishment of the historic grandstands at the centre.

Cr Seymour said the water play and playground upgrades were expected to be finished before the summer school holidays, weather permitting.

“Council thanks the community for their patience while this important work is completed,” he said.
