Nominations open for 2026 Fraser Coast Ability Awards

The search is on for the Fraser Coast's next Ability Award winners, with nominations now open for the 2026 Fraser Coast Ability Awards after last year's event celebrated everyone from a ParaMatildas footballer to a business creating employment pathways for people with disability.

Inclusive Access Advisory Committee Chair Cr John Weiland said the annual awards recognise the achievements, leadership and talents of people with disability, while also celebrating the organisations, businesses, schools and community groups helping to build a more inclusive Fraser Coast.

“People with disability are active contributors to community life, employment, sports, arts, volunteering, education and leadership across the Fraser Coast,” he said.

“These awards recognise people who inspire others through their achievements and who are making a positive difference in our community.

“Every year we're reminded that inclusion creates stronger communities, and these awards are an opportunity to celebrate the people and organisations leading that change.

"We encourage everyone to think about someone who deserves recognition and submit a nomination.

“Disability inclusion is about participation, belonging, dignity and opportunity, and everyone has a role to play in creating a welcoming Fraser Coast.

“Now in its 28th year, the Fraser Coast Ability Awards will be held at the Brolga Theatre Foyer on Friday 18 September.

“This year's theme, 'Sparkle – Shine Bright in Your Community', invites attendees to dress with flair while celebrating diversity, inclusion and the positive impact people with disability have across the Fraser Coast.”

Award categories include:

  • Hall of Fame
  • Excellence in Innovation
  • Outstanding Inclusive Initiative
  • Changemaking through Leadership and Advocacy
  • Outstanding Personal Achievement in Sports and Recreation
  • Outstanding Personal Achievement in Arts and Culture
  • Significant Personal Success and Leading by Example (Ted Weber Award)

Nominations close on Sunday 30 August and can be submitted online via SmartyGrants at https://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/fraser-coast-ability-awards
