Road resurfacing works roll out across the region

Drivers across the Fraser Coast will soon enjoy smoother, safer roads in a range of locations, with Council starting a major road resurfacing program this month.
Roads and Transport spokesperson Cr Denis Chapman said the $5 million program would improve a number of streets across Hervey Bay, Maryborough and River Heads.
“These works are all about making everyday trips easier and safer for our community,” he said.
“Road surfaces wear out over time, so this program will give those roads a fresh new surface and a smoother ride for drivers.”
Cr Chapman said asphalt resurfacing works would take place in suburbs including Pialba, Nikenbah, Kawungan, Torquay, Tinana and River Heads.
“We’re delivering these improvements right across the region to keep our local road network in good condition,” he said.
“Some works will be done during the day, while others will happen at night on busier roads to help reduce disruption.”
Key locations include:
- Taylor Street and Main Street, Pialba
- Main Street, Nikenbah
- Bauhinia Drive, Areca Drive and Mackay Drive, Kawungan
- Dayman Street, Torquay
- Tulipwood Drive, Tinana
- Sandpiper Street and Turnstone Boulevard, River Heads
Cr Chapman said there may be some temporary changes to traffic conditions and minor delays while works are underway.
“We appreciate the community’s patience while this important work is carried out,” he said.
Works start next week and are expected to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
Residents in affected areas will receive more information, including timing for their street, before works begin.
