Playing Field Two at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct will receive a major turf refresh from today (Thursday 8 October) to improve the surface for local sport and events.
Fraser Coast Regional Council Sport and Recreation spokesperson Cr John Weiland said the work would help keep the field in good condition for the many players, clubs and schools that use the precinct throughout the year.
“These fields get a lot of use, so this work is about giving the grass the best chance to recover and creating a better playing surface for the community,” Cr Weiland said.
“The renovation will remove built-up dead grass, loosen compacted soil, level out low spots and apply fertiliser to encourage healthy new growth.
“It will also help reduce weeds and make the turf stronger and more resilient for future sporting seasons.”
The field, covering about one hectare in total, will be closed for around eight weeks while the turf recovers and becomes established.
Cr Weiland said the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct was an important sporting hub for the region.
“The precinct has 10 multi-use sporting fields, eight outdoor netball courts and two indoor basketball courts, and hosts everything from weekly local competitions and school sports days to Wide Bay carnivals and state-level events,” he said.
“Keeping these facilities well maintained means our community can continue to enjoy quality spaces to play, train and compete.”
