“Fraser Coast Regional Council can confirm that approximately 200 to 300 kilograms of dead fish have been found in two main areas of Lake Kalvert at Toogoom.

“Council’s Natural Environment team is on site today (Monday, 2 February) retrieving the fish, and Council’s Environmental Health team are undertaking water quality testing along with officers from the Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (DETSI).

“The fish deaths are likely due to elevated temperatures, which reduce oxygen levels in the water and can cause fish to suffocate.

DETSI have confirmed a number of dead birdlife including ducks and is responsible for managing the response.
