Torquay road upgrades deliver safer, easier travel

- New road surface, footpaths, pedestrian crossing and parking improvements delivered
- Roads in the area now open following staged construction over the past nine months
A major reconstruction project on a section of Denmans Camp Road and Totness Street in Hervey Bay has been completed, making it easier and safer for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to move through the area.
The $5.2 million project has delivered a full road reconstruction with new pavement, upgraded kerbs and drainage, new footpaths, a raised pedestrian crossing at the Rail Trail crossing point and 15 new angled parking spaces near Arthur Proctor Memorial Park and the Hervey Bay Girl Guides building.
The project also included replacing the water main along Totness Street, helping to improve the reliability of essential services in the area.
Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Sara Souvlis said the completed project would provide lasting benefits for the local community.
“Denmans Camp Road and Totness Street are important roads for local residents, businesses and visitors, providing access to homes, parks and community facilities,” Cr Souvlis said.
“These works have created a safer and more accessible route, with improved footpaths, a new pedestrian crossing and additional parking making it easier for people to walk, cycle and move through the area.
“The upgraded road, drainage and supporting infrastructure will help this busy part of Hervey Bay continue to serve the community for many years to come.”
The $5.2 million project was jointly funded by the Australian Government ($1.28 million through the Roads to Recovery program), the Queensland Government ($250,000 through the Active Transport Grants program) and Fraser Coast Regional Council ($3.7 million).
Council thanked residents, businesses and motorists for their patience while the works were underway.
