Butchulla Survival Skills - Traditional Fishing Methods
Next date: Monday, 13 April 2026 | 10:00 AM
to 01:00 PM
Connect to culture, Country and Sea at this hands-on Youth Week experience led by Butchulla Land and Sea Rangers.
Traditional fishing methods of the Butchulla people, the Traditional Owners of K’gari and the Hervey Bay region, are deeply connected to the seasons and environmental indicators. The Fish Trap symbolises the seasonal relationship between Butchulla and Sea Country.
This is a unique opportunity to listen, connect and learn about Butchulla culture, how to find fresh water, identify plants that can help in survival situations and build a Fish Trap.
All young people aged 12–25 are encouraged to come along, though registrations are capped at 25 participants.
