Impounded animals

Dogs and cats caught wandering in any street or public place will be taken to one of Council’s pounds and impounded.

The feed below shows the dogs and cats currently impounded in the Maryborough and Hervey Bay Pounds.

If your pet is listed below, you MUST attend the relevant pound during opening hours and view in person to confirm that it is your animal, appointments not necessary. Once your pet is confirmed, arrangements can be made directly with our friendly Pound staff on how to claim your pet. Relevant fees and charges can be paid via credit/debit card at the Pound, or to pay by cash you will be issued with an ‘Impoundment Form’ for presentation and payment at a Customer Service Centre prior to the release of your pet. Your receipt is proof of payment and required to be shown at the pound upon release of your pet.

As of 1 May 2016, it is compulsory for cats and dogs to be desexed when they are sold, given away, if registration lapses, when impounded, or registered for the first time. If your animal is impounded and required to be desexed you will be issued with a Compliance Notice to have your pet desexed within 28 days. You have the option of obtaining a pre-paid vets desexing voucher within this timeframe and presenting it to Council.
