An approved inspection program provides fair and equitable identification and enforcement of legislative and local law requirements.

Properties will be inspected to determine compliance with the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008, Local Law No.2 (Animal Management) 2011 and Local Law No. 3 (Community and Environmental Management) 2011 with respect to:

  • Dog registration;
  • Desexing of dogs;
  • Number of animals kept at a property (permitted numbers);
  • Enclosure requirements;
  • Overgrown allotments; and,
  • Unsightly allotments.

Officers will assess compliance with overgrown and unsightly allotment provisions. This will benefit the community with respect to public health and amenity.

It is intended all properties within local law urban areas will be inspected, with priority given to areas where registration uptake is poor.

16,707 dog registration renewal notices were issued for 2018/19; 1,775 remain outstanding and an unknown number of dogs are yet to be registered.

Inspection dates

The door knock program will commence Monday 21 January, 2019 and conclude Saturday 29 June, 2019. Inspections willl be conducted between 7am and 5pm Monday to Saturday.
