Community Picnic - Tiaro

Back

Council is excited to announce a series of free Community Picnics aimed at fostering unity and resilience within our neighbourhoods.

The next Community Picnic will be hosted in Tiaro on May 11 from 1pm to 4pm, with free artist workshops, live music by Doug Edwards, food stalls and market stalls.

Then put your dancing shoes on and stay from 4pm to 7pm for a free Community Gig (formally called Brolga Live), a free outdoor concert series across the region.

Both events are at the Tiaro Rec Grounds and are a great opportunity for the community to come together and build unity and resilience.

Where: Tiaro Rec Grounds
When: Saturday, 11 May 2024
Picnic: 1pm - 4pm
Outdoor concert: 4pm - 7pm

Free artist workshops:

  • Nora Hanasy - Organic Sculpture - Nora Hanasy's workshop encourages constructing organic, 3D sculptures from materials like reeds and twigs, using techniques such as wrapping and weaving, culminating in a collaborative installation.
  • Nancy Brown - Creative Design Development - Nancy Brown's workshop involves crafting patterns using words, prints, drawings, and collages on postcards to express community resilience and sense of place, with a unique method of sharing the creations via mail.
  • Shanay Manitzky - Found Object Designs - Shanay Manitzky's workshop focuses on creating designs from found objects like flowers, sticks, and leaves. Participants can concentrate on a single leaf or create a larger composition from an arrangement of items.

This picnic is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
