Proposal to enter place into Local Heritage Register

FRASER COAST REGIONAL COUNCIL – PROPOSAL TO ENTER PLACE INTO THE LOCAL HERITAGE REGISTER

Nominations include:

Scarness Band Rotunda (Esplanade, Hervey Bay – Lot 220 SP185042)

Council has received nomination to enter the above mentioned place into the Local Heritage Register. The nomination has been formulated in accordance with provisions identified under the Queensland Heritage Act 1992 (the Act) and also Council’s Policy Guidelines - Nomination for, Inclusion in, Removal From, or Alteration of the Fraser Coast Local Heritage Register

Notice is given under Part 11 of the Act that the Fraser Coast Regional Council proposes to enter the following places into the Local Heritage Register.  The reasons for the nominations are:

  • Scarness Band Rotunda - It is proposed the Scarness Band Rotunda meet heritage significance criteria A, B, D and G of the Act.

A - the place is important in demonstrating the evolution or pattern of Queensland’s history
B - the place demonstrates rare, uncommon or endangered aspects of Queensland’s cultural heritage
D - the place is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a particular class of cultural places
G - The place has a strong or special association with a particular community or cultural group for social, cultural or spiritual reasons important to the region

Written submissions can be made to Council by any person or entity about the proposed entry of the place into the Local Heritage Register.  Submissions must have regard to the following:

  • The submission must be given to Council on or before 4.45pm on Friday 11 July 2025;
  • A submission must be made on the basis that the place is or is not a place of cultural heritage significance for the local government’s area.
  • Submissions are to be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Fraser Coast Regional Council, PO Box 1943, Hervey Bay Qld 4655.
  • Any person making a submission will be notified of Council’s decision in relation to the Local Heritage Register and their submission.
