Council to support Queensland bushfire victims
27 November 2019
The Fraser Coast Regional Council will not provide funding for fireworks at Festive Season events this year and will donate $10,000 to the Queensland Bushfire Appeal.
“We will continue to support New Year’s Eve celebrations on the Fraser Coast, however we encourage event organisers to find other ways to bring in the New Year besides fireworks displays,” Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said.
“If groups or businesses wish to sponsor fireworks displays at New Year’s events we will not stop them.
We would rather they didn’t, given the tinder dry conditions across the Fraser Coast and much of Australia.
Council will donate $10,000 to the Queensland Bush Fire Appeal to assist impacted families and communities.
Our donation is slightly more than the amount spent on fireworks at the last New Year’s Eve celebrations.
We will also ask event organisers to, where possible, involve local bushfire brigades in festive season events.
The events will be a great opportunity for residents to thank the many volunteer rural bushfire brigade members who keep us safe and provide fundraising opportunities for the brigades.”
