Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, all individuals and organisations are required to take all reasonable and practical steps to minimise the biosecurity risks posed by invasive species within their control. This responsibility is referred to as the General Biosecurity Obligation (GBO).
Council has developed a Biosecurity Plan to guide the management of invasive species across our region. This plan outlines strategic actions to prevent, detect, and respond to biosecurity risks to protect our local environment, economy, and community well-being.
Council implements a Biosecurity Surveillance Program across the Fraser Coast region to ensure compliance with the Biosecurity Act 2014. The program focuses on monitoring and managing prohibited and restricted invasive plants and animals on all land under its authority, helping to protect our environment, economy, and community from biosecurity risks.
