The Lions Shelter in Anzac Park, Maryborough, is being refurbished. The project will upgrade and improve the shelter by replacing old materials, reducing the need for maintenance, and making it more resilient to damage.
The work includes replacing the roof and gutters, repainting, upgrading the brickwork with anti-graffiti coating, and improving the flooring to seal cracks in the concrete. There will also be necessary electrical relocations, updating of drainage, and improvements to the ground levels, as well as laying new turf.
The refurbishment will extend the shelter’s life, reduce upkeep costs, prevent vandalism, and improve safety by making the area easier to monitor.
Works are expected to be completed by mid-June, weather permitting.
A local company, Heritage House Recyclers, will carry out the refurbishment.
The project will cost $86,000, funded through the Council’s 2024/25 Capital Budget.
The improved shelter will be more durable, safer, and easier to maintain, ensuring it remains a valuable and inviting space for the Maryborough community.
Sample of screens to be fitted into brickwork to improve surveillance and improve visual appeal.
