Description

This site now home to the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens and the surrounding Urangan area holds much significance for the Butchulla people.

This area was used as a camping site (Warun) by my people.

As a Butchulla elder, I welcome you. The landscape in Urangan and right across Butchulla country tells the story of my people. Through a deep understanding of country, we have survived here for thousands of years;  we hope to pass on some of this knowledge through this bush tucker garden.

Ngalmu galangoor Biral and Biralgan bula nyin djali!
(May all our good spirits be around you throughout the day.)

Wanya nyin yanman wanai djlnang djaa.
(Wherever you go, leave only footprints.)
