Description

The original concept for the Midden Trail Story began in 2007 when the then, Hervey Bay City Council, Councils Arts and Cultural Development Officer, began consultation with the local indigenous community the Butchulla people. The site and surrounding area is one of high cultural significance and the opportunity to include a high level of cultural interpretation through public artworks was an identified target when Council began major regeneration of the park.     The Midden Trail Story project consisted of the fabrication of concrete pavers and inlays, natural bush materials and objects from the sea to create designs and impressions into coloured concrete castings and to learn and share their importance to the Butchulla people.   The pavers were designed and made by the Butchulla community including artists, children, youth and elders.
