The footpaths in Parklands Boulevard Park, Wondunna are being replaced. The current paths are cracked and uneven because of nearby fig tree roots.
The fig trees are beautiful and provide great shade, but their roots are damaging the concrete paths. This makes the paths unsafe, especially for people walking, using prams, or mobility scooters. Fixing the paths often is costly, so Council is replacing them in a way that works better with the trees.
Work will start the week of 19 May 2025 and is expected to finish by 13 June 2025, depending on the weather.
Council’s Landscape Construction Team will carry out the project.
The total cost is $48,000, funded by the Queensland Government through the Works for Queensland program.
The new paths will be safer, reduce long-term maintenance, and protect the park’s popular fig trees. The upgrades will help make the park more enjoyable for everyone.
