Buy Local - Launch to Business

Fraser Coast Regional Council is proud to partner with local Chambers of Commerce to launch this new initiative to promote "Buy Local" on the Fraser Coast.

We invite Fraser Coast businesses to join us.

Every $100 spent locally has a local impact of $180, based on the multiplier effect.

Our new Open for Business - Buy Local initiative is focused on encouraging the Fraser Coast community to think about and re-consider their purchasing habits for the benefit of your business, the local economy and our community.

At the centre of this initiative is the Fraser Coast Gift Card - a unique and convenient gifting solution that works through the EFTPOS system and can only be redeemed at participating Fraser Coast businesses. It's free for businesses to sign up, and all you need is an EFTPOS terminal to be able to participate. 

What is the Fraser Coast Gift Card?

Using Why Leave Town's (WLT) gift card program, it's an EFTPOS based system (excludes square card readers) aimed at keeping money within communities by encouraging people to shop locally on the Fraser Coast.

The cards can be purchased at a select number of stores that we call "Load Up Stores" and can also be purchased online through the WLT website. Cards can be used for multiple purchases across multiple participating stores, and the cardholder can even check their balance online.

They work the same way as a regular bank's savings account EFTPOS card, and there are no additional fees for businesses to participate, apart from their normal banking transaction fees.

Key dates

Recruitment drive for businesses to sign up:  NOW and ongoing

Hard launch of the program – that is, businesses are signed up with Cards insitu in load-up stores and cards can be purchased/redeemed – 4th December.

The Fraser Coast Gift Card forms part of a larger  "Buy Local" program that guarantees extensive media coverage, including print, radio and social media. There will also be a wide range of marketing collateral for you to download from our website and use in your own campaigns. 

The Fraser Coast Gift Card is not intended to work in competition with store-branded gift cards, but work along side them.

Become a supporter

Even if your business isn't community facing, you can still support the Buy Local campaign in a number of ways. 

Thank your staff – thank your staff with a Fraser Coast Gift Card throughout the year or as an end-of-year bonus.

Perfect client gift – include a gift card as part of your corporate hamper to clients.

Charitable gift – give a charity, community organisation or person in-need the gift of purchasing essentials.

Sponsorship - donate a card to sporting clubs and community organisations who can utilise Fraser Coast Gift Cards as prizes in their fundraising raffles.
