Roadworks for Dundowran Road

Travel between Dundowran and Maryborough will be improved thanks to a $1.4 million project to rebuild the 1km section of Dundowran Road from the Pialba-Burrum Heads Road to Lower Mountain Road.

The contract for the project was awarded by the Fraser Coast Regional Council to local company JAC Civil.

“Dundowran Road is a main artery linking the growing coastal areas of Dundowran and Craignish to the Hervey Bay-Maryborough Road at the Takura roundabout,” Cr Jade Wellings said.

The project is being partially funded by a $736,500 grant from the State Government’s Transport and Infrastructure Development Scheme.

Assistant Regional Roads Minister Bruce Saunders said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to supporting regional Queensland through its record $27.5 billion transport and road infrastructure plan.

“This project will make the road safer for one of the fastest growing areas of the Fraser Coast,” Mr Saunders said.

“This will be welcomed by locals who use this road every day, along with the increasing number of tourists coming to the area.

“It’s great to see local company JAC Civil awarded this project, supporting local jobs.

“Over the next four years, the Palaszczuk Government is delivering $17.5 billion worth of road and transport projects across regional Queensland, supporting 15,870 jobs.

“This includes almost $1.5 billion for the Wide Bay Burnett.”

It is anticipated that the project will start on Monday, October 11, and take 17 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The project will mean changes to traffic conditions. Initially Dundowran Road, between the Pialba Burrum Heads Road and Lower Mountain Road, will be closed to one lane and one-way for traffic travelling north (from Lower Mountain Road to Pialba Burrum Heads Road).

During the project the project site will be closed to all traffic for two weeks as stormwater drainage culverts under the road are replaced.

Council apologises for the inconveniences caused by the temporary lane and road closures as the work is undertaken.
