Toogoom footbridge

The timber deck of the footbridge over Martins Creek which links the boat ramp at Toogoom with Fixter Park is being replaced.

“The bridge will be closed during the week but open for the weekends while the works are undertaken,” Cr Jade Wellings said.

“Council have allocated up to $100,000 for project, that was identified as part of our regular facilities inspection program.

The timber decking will be replaced with a longer-lasting, environmentally-friendly composite plastic decking which is made from recycled plastic. The joists and handrails being replaced with timber.

“Fixter Park is very popular with families and provides access to the main swimming Beach at Toogoom while the public amenities and cafes are in Moreton Street and on Toogoom Road, near the boat ramp,” Cr Jade Wellings said.

“This footbridge is much loved and very well used by the community and it is important that we keep it well maintained.”

It is anticipated that the project will take about six weeks to complete, weather permitting. The work is being undertaken by the Council carpentry team.
