Hythe street works 2

A section of Hythe Street will be closed to traffic as the Fraser Coast Regional Council undertakes road works to restore the road pavement.

It is anticipated that the $480,000 project, partly funded by the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program, will start on Monday, June 12 and take 8 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

“To speed up the works, Hythe Street will be closed to traffic between Romney and Tooth streets,” Cr David Lewis said.

“Access will be maintained during the project for residents who live on the street.”

It follows from a $ 1.2 million project to replace 780 metres of 375mm diameter sewer main down Hythe Street.

“The old sewer main had reached the end of its working life and was being corroded by sewer gas building up in the main,” Cr Lewis said.

“The new main, which was installed along the southern side of Hythe Street, links Pialba to the Eli Creek Sewage Treatment Plant.

“Building, improving, and maintaining our water, sewer and road networks is always going to be a key focus for Council, with about a third of our capital budget allocated to roads, bridges, footpaths and drainage projects this financial year,” Cr Lewis said.

“It’s about effectively managing and maintaining our assets to meet the needs of our growing community.”

Both projects were undertaken by Council staff and were identified as part of Council’s regular infrastructure inspections and reconstruction prioritisation processes.
