Ann Street crossing to change to zebra crossing

Ann Street raised priority crossing

The crossing on Ann Street near the intersection with Boat Harbour Drive will be revamped to make it easier for cyclists and pedestrians to safely cross the road and for motorists to give way.

The raised priority crossing will be changed to a zebra crossing with speed reduction devices installed on the pathway approaches.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Director of Infrastructure Services Davendra Naidu said the changes followed the recent completion of a post-construction road safety audit.

“This is one of the busiest intersections along the Mary to Bay Rail Trail, and Council is eager to ensure it is as safe as possible for all those who use it, whether that be motorists, pedestrians, cyclists or mobility scooter riders,” he said.

“Council received representations about the safety of crossing Ann Street in this location and having a raised zebra crossing will make it safer for people to cross the road.

“We want to ensure our streets are as safe as possible and as easy to navigate as possible.

“Council understands and accepts that motorists are best placed to manage giving way in this location so that other users such as school children aren’t forced to make a decision about when to cross.”

Mr Naidu said work on the changes in Ann Street would get underway in early 2024.
