Urraween Pump Station

Just over $4 million will be pumped into infrastructure upgrades at Urraween Water Pumping Station   to improve the reliability of Hervey Bay’s water supply.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Water and Waste Services Director Mark Vanner said some existing infrastructure would be demolished to make room for a new pump station building.

“This new building will house new pumps, water disinfection system and associated electrics,” he said.

“The work also includes upgrading existing pipework, a new switch room and better chemical storage at the Urraween Reservoir.

“Once works have been completed, the new building and associated works will improve water supply reliability during peak demand periods at Ghost Hill.”

It will also include a backup generator to ensure that the site can continue to operate during periods of power loss.

The $4.28 million project awarded to Utilstra Pty Ltd is part of a multi-million dollar upgrade of the system supplying water to Hervey Bay and surrounds.

Works are due to start in March and be completed by late 2025 with no disruption expected to residents.

Mr Vanner said the Council was committed to planning for the future and providing high-quality public infrastructure to support growth.

“A key priority in Council’s Corporate Plan is to effectively manage and maintain our assets to ensure we can provide the essential services our growing community needs and deserves,” he said.
