Do We Need Another Hero?

A special Opera Queensland performance that mashes up music from The Beatles to Beethoven in a joyful celebration of songs about bravery and heroism is coming to the Brolga Theatre in April.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Director of Strategy, Community and Development Gerard Carlyon said Opera Queensland’s new production Do We Need Another Hero? is all about finding your inner superhero.

“From pop to opera, country to classical, this live musical tribute features chart-topping anthems and unique mashups that will have you dancing in your seat,” he said.

“Do We Need Another Hero? believes that everyone possesses a unique superpower, and everyone can be a hero, if only for a day.

“From Hercules to Hamlet, from Wonder Woman to the working class, this production captures the essence of heroism.

“The audience will be treated to timeless hits from The Beatles, David Bowie, and John Farnham blended with opera classics from composers like Beethoven and Bizet as the show searches for what it means to be a hero.”

The production is from the creative minds behind ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’ and ‘Lady Sings the Maroons’ and showcases some of Queensland’s finest talent including Marcus Corowa, Luke Volker, Jason Barry-Smith, Ruby Clark, and Shikara Ringdahl.

“By bringing Opera Queensland’s touring productions to the Fraser Coast, we can present the magic of opera to our regional audience in an accessible and exciting original way.”

The Brolga Theatre performance in Maryborough will be held on Tuesday, April 23 from 7pm.
