Celebrate Volunteer Week – Join a Bushcare Group
Fraser Coast residents are invited to celebrate National Volunteer Week by joining a Bushcare Volunteer Open Day and discover how they can help protect and restore the region’s natural spaces.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said Council are hosting a series of one-hour Volunteer Open Days from 8–9am between 20–27 May, giving residents the chance to meet current volunteers, learn about bushcare activities, and gain hands-on experience.
“Volunteering with a bushcare group is a rewarding way to connect with nature, meet like-minded people, and make a lasting impact on the environment,” he said.
“Whether you’re an experienced conservationist or simply looking for a meaningful way to give back, there’s a place for everyone in our bushcare groups.”
Open Day locations are:
• Tuesday 20 May – Fraser Coast Community Nursery, Urangan (meet at the entrance along the Dayman Street walking path behind the Urangan Community Wellness Centre)
• Wednesday 21 May – Fay Smith Wetlands, Maryborough (meet at the Neptune Street entrance)
• Thursday 22 May – Bun’Gan Dhu Reserve, Toogoom Foreshore, Toogoom (meet at park entrance along Shellcot Street)
• Saturday 24 May – Arkarra Lagoons, Dundowran (meet at the Panorama Drive entrance)
• Sunday 25 May – Parraweena Park, Point Vernon (meet at the Poona Reserve entrance)
• Tuesday 27 May – Botanic Gardens Bushcare, Urangan (meet at the entrance along the Dayman Street walking path behind the Urangan Community Wellness Centre)
"Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate the vital role volunteers play in our community. It is a fantastic way to stay active, learn new skills, and protect the local ecosystems that make the Fraser Coast so special,” Cr Seymour said.
“If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, now’s the perfect time – several bushcare groups across the Fraser Coast are looking for new volunteers to join their teams. Give bushcare a go – it might just grow on you!”
Come along to the Open Days to meet current volunteers, learn more about Bushcare activities, gain hands-on experience, and find out how you can get involved with your local Community Environment Program (CEP) group.
These events are 18+ only. Attendees must be present at 8am for a mandatory safety briefing and should wear sun-safe clothing and enclosed shoes, and bring insect repellent and water.
