Hervey Bay Library launches night sessions

Hervey Bay library members will soon have the chance to visit the library after dark, with the launch of a new monthly Night Library session starting Thursday, 15 May.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the initiative would give the community greater access to library services and more flexibility to visit outside of work and school hours.

“The first Night Library session will be held on Thursday May 15, with monthly sessions to follow on the third Thursday of each month at Hervey Bay Library,” he said.

“The library will remain open until 7:30pm, offering a variety of activities for all ages that will change each month to suit a wide range of interests.

“The first Night Library session will feature a children’s Storytime, a chance to try robotics, board games, and a rescreening of an exclusive author talk available to members from 6pm to 7pm.”

Cr Seymour said our libraries are more than just places to borrow books—they’re vibrant community hubs offering everything from seed and toy libraries to 3D printing, educational talks, film screenings, and game days like chess and Scrabble.

“By extending our hours, we’re giving members even more opportunities to explore, learn and connect with their community,” he said.

“The idea for the Night Library was inspired by feedback from our recent library programs survey, where members told us they wanted more opportunities to access activities after hours.

“Council sincerely thanks everyone who took part in the survey—we’re always looking for ways to enhance our services and better support our community.”

All Night Library activities are free and do not require bookings.
