Author shares tale of Australia’s first hollywood star

Acclaimed author, journalist and biographer Grantlee Kieza will visit Hervey Bay next month to share the story behind his latest release, Annette Kellerman: Australian Mermaid, at the June ‘Lines in the Sand’ Author Talk.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the event, to be held at Hervey Bay Regional Gallery on Thursday 5 June from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, would be a rare opportunity to hear from one of Australia’s most respected historical writers.

“Grantlee’s new book explores the extraordinary life of Annette Kellerman, an Australian swimming champion, trailblazing performer, and international film star,” Cr Seymour said.

“This is a remarkable story that shines a spotlight on one of our first Hollywood superstars—a woman who broke barriers in sport, entertainment and culture.

“Grantlee spent more than 30 years as a journalist and has written more than twenty acclaimed books, many of which have been bestsellers in Australia.

“In 2019, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to media and literature.

Cr Seymour said we’re thrilled to welcome such a distinguished writer to speak with local readers and aspiring authors.

“The session will include a talk, Q&A, book signing and light supper. Entry is free, but bookings are essential,” he said.

Cr Seymour said Fraser Coast Libraries regularly host free ‘Lines in the Sand’ Author Talks to inspire both readers and aspiring writers. 

“These events offer a unique opportunity to hear from accomplished authors as they share their journeys, insights, and tips on writing, publishing, and storytelling.

“Whether you’re curious about the writing process, want to learn how to self-publish, or simply enjoy hearing from creative minds, these sessions provide valuable inspiration and practical advice in an engaging and supportive environment.”
