Ten local community groups will now have long-term security at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park after Fraser Coast Regional Council approved new 10-year leases at its meeting today (Monday 30 June 2025).

The decision replaces short-term permits with formal leases that better reflect the long-standing and exclusive use of the site by the groups, which range from dog clubs and pony clubs to woodworkers and equestrian sporting organisations.

Communities spokesman Cr Phil Truscott said the move was about giving community groups the certainty they need to continue delivering valuable programs and events.

“The Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park is a hub of community activity, and these leases ensure local groups have long-term security to keep improving their spaces, apply for grants and plan for the future,” he said.

“From radio-controlled car racing to woodturning, dog shows and equestrian events, these groups help bring the showgrounds to life and contribute to the social fabric of the Fraser Coast.”

The groups receiving new leases are:

  • Maryborough and Districts Radio Rallycross Inc
  • Maryborough Kennel Club Inc
  • Maryborough Woodturners and Woodcraftsmen Guild Inc
  • Fraser Coast Agriculture Show Society Inc
  • Maryborough Active Riders Club Inc
  • Maryborough Pony Club Inc
  • Fraser Coast Horse Trials Inc
  • Maryborough & District Western Performance Club Inc
  • Southern Cross Xtreme Cowboy Racing Club Inc
  • Fraser Coast Western Dressage Association Inc

Each group will pay an annual lease fee and share the cost of preparing a site map to clearly define their leased areas.

Cr Truscott said the leases were also important for enabling future projects.

“The Fraser Coast Agriculture Show Society already has grant funding to build a new shed, and now that the lease is locked in, they can finally move ahead with the project,” he said.

Council’s community leasing program offers low-cost access to land and facilities to enable the delivery of valued community services and activities.
