Glenwood gears up for playground celebration

A community celebration packed with family fun, games, and a barbecue will mark the official opening of Glenwood’s new playground on Saturday 9 August.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the celebration would be a fantastic way to bring the Glenwood community together and showcase the new recreation space.

“This new playground is all about connection, and we’re excited to officially open it with a day of fun for the whole family,” he said.

“There’ll be basketball and handball games on the new multicourt, ninja warrior challenges on the playground, AFL, cricket and a sausage sizzle.

“We invite everyone to come along and celebrate this wonderful new space.”

The event will run from 9.30am to 1.30pm at Pepper Road, Glenwood, and will include an official opening ceremony with Mayor Seymour, Councillor Phil Truscott and the Glenwood School Captains.

Cr Truscott said the playground and surrounding recreation area were almost ready, but fencing would remain in place until the event to allow the newly laid turf to settle.

“We know everyone is keen to explore the new space, and we appreciate the community’s patience while we give the grass a chance to establish properly,” Cr Truscott said.

“This $447,000 project, funded through Council’s capital works budget, reflects the input and aspirations of Glenwood residents.

“The new facilities include a modern playground with junior and senior play areas, a multi-use sports court, shaded seating, concrete pathways and landscaping.

“This is a place where kids can play, families can meet up, and the community can come together. We’re proud to have worked with the community to deliver a space that will be used and loved for years to come.”
