Fraser Coast Community Hub

The new Hervey Bay Community Hub is halfway through construction, marking a major step forward in delivering more public spaces, centralised Council services and a revitalised city heart.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the project was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the city centre, create jobs, drive business investment, and deliver lasting benefits for residents of all ages.

“More than three-quarters of this development will be community space, including a new library, meeting rooms, creative areas, and places to learn, connect and relax,” he said.

“This will be a space for everyone, whether you’re studying, discovering new technology, attending a workshop, borrowing a book or just looking for a quiet place to read.”

Construction is progressing well, with the building expected to reach its full height in early spring.

“More than 17,000 square metres of concrete have been poured so far, nearly 900 tonnes of steel reinforcement installed, and over 39 tonnes of structural steel used to support large windows and open spaces,” Cr Seymour said.

“The biggest single concrete pour so far, covering more than 1,000 square metres, forms part of the new library and will house areas such as a Makerspace, podcast rooms, a Young Adult zone, and study and tech spaces.”

The site is a hive of activity, with an average of 110 workers on site each day, and up to 170 expected during the busiest periods.

“Importantly, local businesses are playing a big role in bringing this project to life,” Cr Seymour said.

“More than $25 million in contracts have already been awarded to local companies, which is about a third of all committed works so far.”

Cr Seymour said the Hervey Bay Community Hub would be a long-term asset for the whole community.

“After construction is completed in mid-2026 and the hub opens in the second half of 2026, it will bring together services that are currently spread across many locations and provide a new city heart for Hervey Bay,” he said.

“By creating more engaging public spaces and bringing more people into the city centre, we’re also helping local businesses and boosting activity in the area.”

The Hervey Bay Community Hub will include:

  • A modern two-level library with more space and services
  • A new Council administration and customer service centre
  • A Disaster Resilience Centre to help plan, prepare for and respond to natural disasters
  • Meeting rooms, creative spaces and flexible areas for public use
  • An outdoor public plaza

The Hervey Bay Library and Council Administration Centre (incorporating a Disaster Resilience Centre) is a commitment under the Hinkler Regional Deal, supported by $40 million from the Australian Government.
