Community precinct to take off near Maryborough Airport
A new community precinct is set to take off on land near Maryborough Airport, with four local organisations securing a long-term home under a coordinated lease arrangement approved by Fraser Coast Regional Council.
Cr Paul Truscott said the decision to provide the leases over vacant land near the Maryborough Airport was about creating a vibrant hub that will bring people together, boost volunteering, and give the groups the room they need to grow.
“These leases will give community organisations the certainty they need to plan, invest and expand their services, while making better use of vacant Council-owned land for the benefit of the whole community,” he said.
“By bringing these groups together in one location, we’re creating opportunities for collaboration, shared resources, and stronger community connections.”
The groups moving into the precinct are:
- Rotary Club of Maryborough City Inc
- Rotary Club of Maryborough Sunrise Inc
- Older Men Unlimited Inc
- Maryborough Women’s Shed Inc
A site plan has been developed to guide the layout of the precinct, with the vision of a welcoming, well-connected space featuring new buildings, shared amenities, and parking.
Each group has up to four years to finalise approvals and secure funding before formalising their lease.
“This project reflects the strong demand we regularly receive from community groups seeking a place to call home,” Cr Truscott said.
“With Council already managing more than a few hundred community leases across the region and very few existing facilities available, we made the decision to open up suitably zoned land near Maryborough Airport for community use and benefit.
“Through an expression of interest process, groups from across the region were able to apply, and the successful applicants will now have the opportunity to establish their new base.”
