Celebrate Seniors Month on the Fraser Coast
Fraser Coast seniors are being encouraged to discover hidden talents, reconnect with friends and try something new during Seniors Month this October.
Running from 1 to 31 October 2025, Seniors Month will feature more than 40 events and activities across the Fraser Coast and online to celebrate the vital contributions older adults make to our community.
Fraser Coast Regional Council Senior Liaison Officer Juls De Waard said there was something for everyone, with open days, concerts, mystery bus trips, a photographic competition, the Mayor's Picnic and the ever-popular Seniors Talent Quest.
“Seniors Month offers a calendar full of fun and affordable activities where people over 50 can connect, participate, be recognised and, most importantly, enjoy themselves,” Ms De Waard said.
“One of the highlights includes the Over 50’s Lifestyle Expo on Friday 3 October from 9 am to 2 pm at the Hervey Bay Baptist Church, which this year marks its 22nd anniversary.
“The Expo is one of the longest-running events on the calendar, featuring up to 80 exhibitors showcasing everything from accommodation and travel to mobility aids and medical information.
“The Seniors Talent Quest is another crowd favourite, with local performers taking to the stage to sing, dance and entertain.
“This year’s event will be held on Sunday 19 October from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Hervey Bay RSL. Contestants can enter for $5, with the same price for audience entry.”
Ms De Waard said Maryborough residents won’t miss out either, with MADCOTA coordinating a range of fun and informative activities, including the Mayoral Heritage Morning Tea at the Brolga Theatre, as well as a spring concert and a ballroom dance.
“New events and activities include online fitness classes and a special podcast series on FM 107.5 Community Radio that celebrates our seniors - ordinary people with extraordinary stories,” she said.
“Everyone has a story to tell, and these local tales promise to be funny, moving, and inspirational. You can tune in live or catch up later by downloading the podcast.
“The jam-packed month of events is a great opportunity for anyone over 50 to meet new people and engage with the community.
“Isolation and loneliness are huge issues, so I am hoping that during October these events will encourage people to get out of the house, celebrate and connect with others.”
